Free beer and jello shots at the BBQ Cook-off at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo last Saturday night.

Some dude passed out at the BBQ cookoff surrounded by beer cans...this is around 10ish. This was taken with my phone.

We went to Goode's Armadillo Palace to see the John Slaughter acoustic show this past Tuesday night. Very cool place, excellent food, and an awesome atmosphere.

Our patio at Jug Estates, better known as The Porch of Reason. Those stones were a bitch to put in!

The homemade fantasy football trophy for our league, the Lucky Beaver Fantasy Football League.

This weekeneds here/there: This Saturday night I plan on going to the Firehouse Saloon to see Wade Bowen.

Quick Hits:

1. I don't know why, but for some reason I can't put a title on my posts. I will figure it out eventually, but for now it is annoying.

2. Speaking of annoying, radio and TV here in Texas has been playing the same Obama commercial over and over and over and over and over again over the last two weeks. Last night I was watching TV and during one commercial break, the same commercial played three times. In the commercial, Obama states "We have CEOs making as much in ten minutes that other people make in a year!". Uhhhh, that might be true, but you're never going to change that Obama...Jackass.

3. This weekend (Saturday night) I am going to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo BBQ Cookoff. I will not be competing, I will be consuming. The BBQ cookoff kicks off the Houston Rodeo each year, which is a 3-4 week event. If you see the picture of the cookoff on the link above, basically each tent represents a company or organization from across the state that enters their BBQ in the contest. The contest lasts three days, but for most people who have passes to get into a tent it represents free BBQ, free beer, and some decent entertainment. Most tents will have a band of some sort, but all provide free beer and BBQ to those who have passes to their tents. I have passes to two different tents through some friends...good times!

4. What sucks about access to free beer this Saturday is I have to work on Sunday. Free beer is always dangerous. I went to an acoustic show one night at Casa De Fuego and for an hour or so they had the Bud Lite there girls giving out FREE buckets of beer! FREE buckets of beer...that never happens. Needless to say I call in sick the next day.

5. Two weeks ago my friends, brothers, and I went to my sister in law's school where she is a gym teacher. She opened up her gym and sports closet for us to play basketball, dodgeball, or whatever. If you ever have the chance to do this, I highly recommend it. First of all, she teaches at an elementary school, so she had all kinds of shit in that closet I hadn't seen in years. I felt like Tom Hanks in Big when he got the job at the toy company. We played basketball and dodgeball for a few hours, it was a freaking blast! I was sore as hell the next few days, but it was worth it.

6. My wife and I entered a drawing with the Astros to be eligible to purchase tickets to the Yankees and Red Sox series when they come down to the Juice Box this year. I think this is the first time they have been here, so they did drawings for the chance to purchase tickets instead of making them available to the general public. This was the third round of the drawings, so its not like there was great seats left. We were allowed to buy 4 tickets each to both series (not games), so we scooped up all the tickets we could get in pairs and will sell these and hopefully make a profit. This took up 45 minutes of my workday yesterday.

Redneck Margarita Machine...

Welcome to A Jug's Life. I plan to post short, but frequent little quick hits/thoughts/posts on stuff that I do and think, probably with some pics just to give a little look into Jug's life beyond my "here" - "them" posts.

I'll start with...

Today I registered myself and my team for the Beach to Bay Relay Marathon in Corpus Christi, TX. This will be the fourth year in a row we have run this, and it is just a freaking blast of a weekend. I know...most people don't run unless they are being chased. Most of the people on my team don't run until this weekend each year. No one cares though, we are just down there for the beer. Steve (R.I.P.) knows this race. Its a fun atmosphere if you are going to run, the beer tastes even better when you get done running your leg.

This year we have at least two other teams joining us, so we'll have at least 20 people out there at Cole Park for the after race party drinking beer, playing volleyball, drinking beer, catching some live music, drinking beer, throwing frisbee, drinking beer, and maybe even rolling down the hill in a garbage can (because we drank beer).
